Note: I have been diagnosed with gender dysphoria, and was born with both male and female characteristics and reproductive organ defects. This is not a choice, a trendy statement, or purely cosmetic; it is a part of treatment for a legitimate medical condition. Please research trans medicalism and intersexed individuals before drawing conclusions. If your beliefs include denying medical treatment for birth defects or illnesses, then that is your opinion, but it will not change my decision to seek treatment. Thank you very much to those who have shown support and understanding for a serious medical condition.

--

Hello friends!

I'm a 27 year old trans man who has been presenting as male for the past three years. I am planning for surgery and had been hoping to set up a date a few years in the future after saving commission money, but my HRT has been sucking all my funds, and my endocrinologist is very concerned with my health and highly recommends that I push hard to get surgery sooner than later, as binding my chest for as long and as often as I have had to due to working outside the home so much could be doing permanent damage to my ribs and lungs.

Unfortunately I can't afford to do this on my own. I'm working a combined 80-100 hours a week between my studio job and commissions, but with school loans and the cost of my injections, there is not much left at the end of the month. I'd hugely appreciate any help in getting to my goal so I can get my chest repaired and be able to live a slightly more normal life!

The surgery plus hospital stay generally costs approx. $10,000, and also requires me to stay in the hospital area for about a week. I am trying to provide $3,000+ out of my own pocket but some help would be really great. Once the total is reached, I'll work on scheduling the surgery and time off for hospital recovery!

Thank you so much for your consideration and for spreading the word. You are all amazing friends and your support has always meant so much to me! More rewards may be added over time!

-Jay

I knew you were a good friend when you spent a large chunk of your time listening to my stupid teenage ramblings in college, so this is payback for being a good listener. Plus it's tax-deductible wuuuuuut

And ignore those ignorant 15-year old contradictory bible-preaching trolls. It's unfathomable to me that these people truly exist. Trying to get through to them with reason will not change anything and even if it were a purely cosmetic surgery that they seem to think it is, it's none of their business anyway. Your body and mind are yours. Be you and be proud.

LOL I enjoyed listening to your ramblings hahahah, man there are things I really miss about the SCAD days...how've things been going for you since school anyways? Any big developments since then? I mean I drop in on Facebook from time to time but I'm awful at seeing many posts and it's not always much of substance we all post on there anyhoo. And yes it iiiiis aww yeeeee :V

Thanks, I don't tend to take arguments that use religion seriously. It's not that I have anything against belief in gods, I consider my own beliefs to be on the fence as it is, it's just when it's used as an argument to contradict science and medicine, it loses all validity for me. I questioned my feelings for years and kept this to myself from a very young age, so when it did come time to move forward, there was no doubt in my mind that this was what I had to do. I was facing a lifelong medical issue and not a "temptation" or some kind of internalized misogyny. It'd take a hell of an argument to reverse it. :B

Haha, we both know my ramblings weren't ALWAYS fun, but I thoroughly enjoyed hearing your thoughts as well. Everyone misses the SCAD days! College really will forever be the golden days of our memories. Really tempted to go back, but it would probably be a little shameful lol.

I'm doing great! I'm temporarily working at Fisher Price, but I'm on furlough right now, so I'm taking advantage and pushing my demo reel/portfolio (FINALLY). I've literally had nothing worthwhile done since graduation, so I'm in a good place right now. Trying to focus on myself haha.

I don't blame you on the fb thing, I only post stupid stuff on there most of the time lol. I do use it primarily to catch up with people though.

Nah, I know plenty of friends and even family who are respectable Christians who don't condone this pitchfork behavior. My brother had a beautiful reason for why he is a Christian. Believe what you want and I'll even listen to your genuine philosophy on it, but force-feeding it and all the while being condescending about it, I will shut you out. And yes! The arguments they choose tell me they've never heard of a fallacy. Only quote the bible where it conveniently fits your argument and then spontaneously fall on deaf ears when a contradiction is presented. This crazy close-minded mentality will gradually change though. I used to be closed-minded too until I actually met people who didn't fit the stereotype that I had assigned them. I realized that people aren't simply categorized between black and white. There's not really a separation of good and evil, only a sea of gray. Humans are complex and unique and that's what makes us interesting, so it makes me sick when I see people being oppressed and unable to make peace with who they truly are.

I'm sorry you had to endure scrutiny for something you couldn't help, but you got out of there because you are intelligent and wise beyond your years. Stay awesome.

Pfft yeah they were really great memories. I couldn't afford to go back, heck I can't afford the loan payments now, hahah, but there are so many classes I wish I coulda taken! I do miss it.

Ahh that's awesome, glad that things are working out thus far! I'm working with Disney/Marvel but it's mainly design and not illustration or animation so I dunno, it's not exactly the area I aimed for but hey. Like you said, might as well push your portfolio in the meantime! Focusing on yourself when it's possible is important.

Yeah I try to scroll on there when I can just to see what's up with folks. And definitely, it's not a common viewpoint anymore I don't think. My partner's Christian and it was hard for him to come to terms with having gotten involved with me (lol) but it was an internal struggle and nothing against me at all. When it's about loving others and sharing what you have, you're cool in my book, whatever religion or lack thereof you happen to be. And yep, seems the negative ones tend to use the Bible as a crutch for their own bigotry, and they love to read the fine print while missing the big picture (while much of the fine print is misconstrued, rewritten, and mistranslated). I was raised to be bigoted by my family, even against myself, which gave me a lot of issues to deal with later for sure. It took a lot to separate "different" from "evil" when you're taught these basics early on. The greys are what make it interesting :B It is really awful when I see or read about others who are struggling to be moral and have renounced their real selves to do so. More often than not they end up miserable beyond belief. There are some things you can't change by willpower or prayer.

Thanks broooo. We gotta find a way to hang out again one of these days! I do need to see New York sometime, hahah.

Yea, the loans aren't worth it now. There's a ton of good resources for a fraction of the price online now :D

Dang, you're working for Disney/Marvel?! Even though it's not anim/illus, it's still lookin' pretty shiny!

You can believe and think however you want as long as you're not trying to shove it down other people's throats and hurting them in the meantime. It annoys me when I see people who claim to be good people with good intentions who end up being super condescending to people who are just different. Don't forget to self-evaluate.

Yea, it would be great to hang out sometime, but I'm actually not in the city lol. I'm in Buffaloooo, NY. We're basically Canada.

Hah yeah, I'm trying to find something else less frustrating, exhausting, and soul sucking, but it looks great on a resume! It's affected my health in all the worst ways though too, so while I'm glad I took the job and learned something new from it, I'll be glad if I find something else (or can move into their toy department because holy crap I wanna design toyssss). Thanks!

Exactly, long as people are being kind to others and living their lives in a way that respects people and the world around them, it's all cool to me. We each have our own ways of living.

Hahahah, I was basically Canadian when I was a Minnesotan...I do wanna plan a trip up the whole NE coast as it's the only place in the USA other than Alaska and Hawaii that I don't remember much! But of course that'd be a long ways in the future, heh. Buffalo is coooold.

Thank you so much, I'm working hard towards the goal! My lungs are starting to give out on me, the cough attacks have been brutal the past week or so, so I'm hoping next year I might be able to get help before I'm really in trouble. XD
